A Different Taste of Art in the East and the West

十九世紀英國的藝術評論家John Ruskin這麼說：「人活在世上最偉大的事情就是觀看，然後以簡單的語言表達出所見。」近幾年當代藝術崛起，知名藝術家「奈良美智」成為日本當今最火紅的指標人物。今年10月蘇富比於香港舉辦了一場秋季拍賣，其中奈良美智的畫作《背後藏刀》成交總金額高達 $195,696,000港幣(含佣)，成為日本最貴藝術家，而這一幅畫是奈良美智拍賣場上歷年來最大幅的畫布作品，一貫簡潔有力的筆觸，大面積的色塊運用，讓這幅畫作更顯張力。2019年10月，佳士得拍賣於紐約拍出了一幅名為《The Fountain》的版畫藝術品，出自於美國藝術家Frank Stella之手，創作於1992年。他是美國知名的雕塑家與版畫家，其作品以抽象與極簡主義而聞名，作品受到了美國藝術家Jackson Pollock和Franz Kline影響，充滿了抽象主義和色彩，在過去的拍賣會上，他的作品漲幅空間很大，而這一幅《The Fountain》版畫創下了他歷年來的拍賣新高，以 $10,287,750美金(含佣)成交。

法國傳奇女權藝術家Niki de Saint Phalle的雕塑作品《Sagittarius Vase》，在蘇富比巴黎線上拍賣創下了當季新高，以 $13,750歐元成交。這款藝術作品於1992年創作，充分表現了Niki de Saint Phalle的創作精隨，以身形豐腴的女人身形雕塑了這一款獨一無二的花瓶，其顏色大膽鮮豔，成了她宣洩情緒與靈感的出口。而射擊藝術成為她探索女性各種各樣的角色的一個過渡期，她以女性為題材製造與實物一樣大小的玩偶，例如新娘和婦女分娩時的情境。材料方面，主要為紙黏土，並以聚酯和鐵線作支架。

羅芙奧2019秋季拍賣All in: out of now 無設限，線上拍賣率先登場，並以潮流感風格策展概念令人耳目一新，在10月Art Taipei藝博會期間，Bellavita展覽無論在空間設計、講座內容，都是收藏圈內高人氣的討論話題。本季收藏品元素，集結經典大師作品至潮流公仔，而當代潮流藝術大師空山基的作品《衝浪手雕塑》在極高的詢問度與激烈的競標之下，最終以 $15,340美元成交 (含佣)，高於起拍十倍的金額，為本次羅芙奧秋季線上拍賣成交金額翻倍最高的拍品。

新時代藝術面臨了前所未有的榮景，在現今創作自由度極高的時代，人們的品味愈發獨特也充滿了個人色彩，藝術記錄了每一個年代的歷史，也賦予了每一個年代意義與美好時光。新時代藝術的崛起也反應了現代人對於收藏與增值性的重視，從各個大型拍賣會中可以看見東西方的品味差異，新時代藝術在亞洲地區依然十分受到歡迎，並在這幾年熱度來到了最高點，從奈良美智的作品拍賣價格中，可以略知亞洲收藏家的品味；而在西方拍賣世界中，抽象藝術與現代藝術的作品依然受到收藏家的喜愛。近幾年有更多種類的藝術作品成為拍賣會上搶手的收藏，凡舉公仔、玩具都顛覆了人們對於藝術品既定的界線與印象，大大增加了全球各大拍賣會的可看性，而藝術品的價值現今不僅是取決於藝術家的創作理念，也取決了買家獨到的品味與眼光。

John Ruskin, the English art critic of the 19th century said, ”The main things I want people to see and express in a simple language.” In recent years, emerging contemporary art has made the artist  Yoshitomo Nara the most prominent in Japan. This year in October, the Knife Behind Back by Yoshitomo Nara was sold in Sotheby’s Autumn Sales in Hong Kong for HK$195,696,000 (commission included). Afterwards, he became Japan’s most expensive artist. The painting ranks amongst the largest works on canvas by Yoshitomo Nara to appear at auction over the years, and it presents his style using deceptively simple brush strokes and large color blocks to make the painting expressive. In October 2019, a painting named The Fountain, 1992 by Frank Stella was sold in the Christie’s auction in New York. Frank Stella is an American sculptor and printmaker, he is noted for his work in the areas of minimalism and abstraction expressionism. His works of art are influenced by the American artist Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline for their work in abstract expressionism and color application. Browsing the results of past auctions, the sales price of his works has increased greatly. The print The Fountain set the record on Stella’s works sold for US$ 10,287,750 (commission included). The legendary French feminist artist Niki de Saint Phalle’s sculptured work Sagittarius Vase was sold in Sotheby’s Auction in Paris for EUR$ 13,750, which set the new record of the season in Sotheby’s Auction. The piece of artwork was created in 1992, and it fully demonstrated Niki de Saint Phalle’s signature style, the sculptural female figure that was turned into the unique vase in bright colors is an outlet for her emotions and inspiration. The shooting painting becomes her transition period of exploring various female characters. She created the real-life female dolls, such as the scene that the bride or the mother-to-be gives birth to a baby; as to the materials, she mainly adopts paper clay and uses polyester and wire to build the structure.

Ravenel Autumn Auction 2019 All in: Out of Now, which started with the online auction that was themed with fashion style for a refreshing impact. During the Art Taipei in October, the space design and lectures held at the Bellavita art gallery space was the most popular topic in the world of collectors.

The collecting elements of the season ranged from the classic masterpieces to the celebrated action figures. Owing to highly rated purchase inquiry and fierce bidding, the sculpture, Surfer, by the master artist Hajime Sorayama in Japan’s world of contemporary art, was sold for US$15,340 (commission included.), which was 10 times higher than the starting bid and resulted in the highest double-up price in the Ravenel Autumn Auction.

The New Age Art is unprecedentedly in its most prosperous period. Today, artists have a much higher creative freedom, and personal taste in art tends to be an individual’s choice and preference. Art records the history of each era and defines the meaning and good times in each era. The rise of the New Art Age reflects how people from the modern era emphasizing the importance of collection and increase in value. From these large auctions, it’s easy to find the different taste preferences in the east and the west. The New Art Age Art in Asia area is still very popular and their prominence has reached the peak. From the auction prices of Yoshitomo Nara’s artworks, the works reflect the collector’s taste in the eastern auction industry while which in western, the works in the areas of abstract expressionism and contemporary still set the collectible preference. In recent years, there are more hot auction items of different kinds; the more the action figures and toys upended the established boundaries and impressions of art, the more diversity the world’s auctions have; while the value of art today depends on not only the artists’ creative statements but also buyer’s unique tastes and visions for art.
