In 1980, Pauline moved to Taipei and joined Hilton International as their public relations manager. She grew up in Hong Kong when it was still a colony of the British, thus, she adapted an elegant personality with introverted qualities of the Chinese culture. People are attracted to her knowledgeable beauty at first sight. When she speaks of public relations, the professional terms that she uses speak of her experiences and her expressions show the charisma of an independent female.
Pauline Leung as the Chairman of Compass Public Relations Ltd. was born in colonized Hong Kong and thus she obtained a different point of view about culture. In the early days, she began at Cathay Pacific Airways as Sales and Marketing Executive. She should have kids after getting married and becoming a housewife, but her husband was relocated to Taiwan after her first pregnancy. In a friend gathering, one of her friends said, “It would be a great loss if you quit working!” Thinking about returning to work not long after, on the grand opening ceremony of The Landis Taipei hotel, she met the American PR manager who was relocating to Hilton International Taipei. He decided to recommend her after having a face to face conversation, and Pauline was hired after an easy interview with the hotel’s GM. As the first Asian PR manager of Hilton International, she changed the style of the company and resolved the language barrier with local media and university groups. Pauline loves new challenges. After she retired from her hotel career, she started her own PR company, Compass Public Relations Ltd. She developed her company depending on connections and relationships. The first project she received was from the Taiwan branch of Northwest Airlines. They wanted to organize an annual costume party for the brand. Pauline took a team of about 20 Taiwanese media with her to the States, and also 20 orphans from an orphanage to share the joy. Her arrangement was greatly surprising, and later also brought her countless number of new projects. Many years in her career, Pauline learned that it is important to fully understand the familiar enterprise to become a successful PR person. More importantly, an enterprise should know its CSR well. When difficulties arise, always face and solve the problem while committing with your determination and energy. It is this attitude that developed the credibility of Compass Public Relations. As the Chief PR Office of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Pauline loves traveling and Chinese literature all these years. She personally visited many scenes in stories, including Nanjing where Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu fall in love in the story Dream of the Red Chamber. Her travel with female companions was filled with joy. Pauline is inspired by her passion for Chinese literature and travel in daily life, and she found the aesthetics that she believes in.
