As we slide open the Japanese shoji, a wide range of mother and baby products comes into view as we are surrounded by the nostalgic warmth of the heritage building and the history it carries. “We want to give all the women who became mothers a beautiful parenting experience,” says Teresa Lin, director of Mon Bonbon. Withholding the same concept for over seven years, the brand welcomes its second location at Rongjin Gorgeous Time.

Love at First Sight
Offering a selection of carefully curated quality clothing and daily necessities from all over the world, Mon Bonbon aspires to bring beauty experience into parenting and has been many loyal customer’s favorite. The aesthetic of space has always been Teresa and her team’s priority, which is why when she first saw Rongjin Gorgeous Space, she instantly fell in love with the elegance and warmth of the old Japanese building. “In contrast with Western beauty standards, the simplicity of old buildings, from the scent of the wood to the natural light pouring through the window, is incomparable.” Smiling, she points out that it’s a luxury to be able to enjoy a slow, unhurried experience in Da’an District in Taipei, which further solidified her choice for Mon Bonbon’s second location.

When Old Meets New
When the old Japanese building imbued with history meets the babycare products symbolizing vitality, an interplay between the old and new and the coexistence of tranquility and exuberance are created. The results of such a clash is a unique aesthetic enriched with special feelings. When it comes to perfectly merging the brand’s French elegance into a venue with great history, Teresa admits it did take some effort to combine the cultures. “We wanted to preserve the original interior of the heritage building so we carefully studied its lighting. We decided to use only a limited amount of furniture and some ambient lighting, relying only on Mon Bonbon’s selections and the building itself to create this fantastical but natural connection.” Loving every single corner of the space—from the vintage picture frame set behind the counter to the engawa unique to Japanese-styled houses—Teresa finds the design of the space extremely charming. Perfectly recreating the classic scenes from Japanese movies, the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere makes one linger.

Where Healing Begins
As a select shop for mother and baby products, Mon Bonbon continues to receive praise from adults. “In every person’s heart lives a child. As adults, our world is never lacking anxiety and pressure. It doesn’t matter if we become parents or not, there will always be a part of us that misses our carefree childhood.” Located in a shopping district targeting adults, Mon Bonbon somehow becomes a place of remedy. Teresa hopes that whenever someone—it can be an office worker who just got off, a city dweller after having a drink next door, or even a couple on their weekend date—opens the door to Mon Bonbon, they can immediately find their young and innocent selves. The greenery and spatial design of the creative park is also suitable for families to come visit. Take a stroll around the market and enjoy a short break from our quotidian troubles. It’s a perfect place for parents and kids. “If you have the chance, feel free to visit Mon Bonbon and have a look around.”
