身為宏碁聯合創辦人之一的葉紫華女士,除了是施振榮先生的夫人身份之外,無論在工作中、生活裡或之於社會,都擔任不同的角色,包括身兼羅慧夫顱顏基金會、榮智基金會董事,親身投入慈善公益更是數十年未曾間斷。
Being one of the co-founders of Acer, other than being the wife to Mr. Stan Shih, Ms. Carolyn Yeh also takes on different roles whether for work, in life or towards society, including the Chairwoman for Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation and the CEO of StanShih Foundation, where she personally devotes herself to charity public welfare for continuous several decades.

企業家及其夫人參與社會慈善雖說是常見之事,但施振榮夫人葉紫華女士卻深入落實慈善數十年如一日,這天與施夫人近距離交談,不僅體會到她敦厚且正直的性情,也能在她的話裡行間感受到她關懷人文的溫暖。施夫人投入公益數十年,其中與羅慧夫顱顏基金會更是擁有30年的緣分情誼,她帶著溫婉的笑容娓娓說道為何會答應擔任基金會董事,她說當年因為透過朋友介紹而得知羅慧夫醫生希望幫助更多家庭經濟有困頓的顱顏病童得到適當的醫療與救助,認同羅慧夫醫生理念的施夫人,可以說在籌備階段便已加入擔任基金會董事,當年施夫人只提出一個原則,就是帳目要清楚,且需經過專業會計師簽證。施夫人解釋道:「站在捐款人的角度,財務透明化是非常重要的原則,因為唯有帳款透明與嚴格的紀律才能贏得公信力。」由這點可看出,施夫人嚴謹且正直的做人處事態度。
謙和的她還笑著說,其實自己從羅慧夫顱顏基金會身上也學到了很多落實執行、企劃能力以及講究援助效能的專業性,獲益不少的她也因此建立了自己投入慈善贊助的考量與判斷力。作為台灣最知名的企業家之一,施董與夫人不免常常遇到各種基金會、慈善團體的援助要求,施夫人表示,自己對於加入什麼樣的基金會自有一套選擇準則,其中她最重視的就是運營管理方針、財務清楚與執行人員的品質等,相同的評估原則也落實於施夫人私下自己所贊助投入的公益計畫,她甚至還有自己的團隊挑選、審核、跟進所贊助的案件。
「給魚吃不如教你釣魚」是施夫人在投入慈善項目的原則之一,撒錢了事從來就不是施夫人投入慈善的態度,她贊助的團體或案件,通常都是審慎經評估後,認為只需給予一點推力便能自立發展並茁壯,而她始終樂意成為那個推一把的動力,而且她還會持續了解所贊助每個項目、每個案子的後續發展,以負責任的態度面對每一次的慈善贊助。
因為相信善的循環,施夫人特別重視偏鄉教育、孩童教育的發展以及文化的推廣,期望這些在最困難時曾受過幫助的孩子或團體,能在茁壯之後同樣回饋社會推動正向發展。在施夫人的心裡,即便越投入公益活動越知道社會需要幫助與資源的人實在多不勝多,憑自己之力始終有限,但施夫人仍緊扣慈善不是施恩的原則,而是給予最大效能的幫助,期許藉由自己對社會的關注與付出,為社會注入正能量往更正向的方向發展,而這也正是所謂的企業家風範。


It is commonly seen for entrepreneurs and their wives to attend social charities, but the wife of Mr. Stan Shih, Ms. Carolyn Yeh has been deeply involved in charity for the past several decades. Through the close conversation with Mrs. Shih this day, I not only sense her kindhearted and upright personality, but also felt the warmth from her caring towards culture within her words. Devoted to public welfare for several decades, Mrs. Shih further had a 30-year relation with Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation. She explained why she agreed to act as director for the foundation with a gentle smile, and she said that she learnt from friends that Dr. Noordhoff hopes to help more craniofacial children from families in economic stress, which by accessing appropriate medical treatment and assistance. Mrs. Shih agrees with Dr. Noordhoof’s principles already joined as Chairwoman for the foundation during the preparation stage, where she only raised one principle, and that is the accounting must be clear with professional accountant’s approval. Mrs. Shih explained: “Standing from the donors’ point of view, it is a vital principle for the financial affairs to be transparent, as credibility only comes with transparent accounts and stringent discipline”, thus Mrs. Shih’s stringent and upright attitude may be seen from this point.
She smiled and said modestly, that she actually learnt a great deal of professionalism towards implementation and execution, planning ability as well as being particular about the efficacy of assistance from Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation. Therefore, with a lot of benefits she has gained, she established the abilities towards consideration and judgment for charity sponsorships. Being one of the most famous entrepreneurs in Taiwan, President Shih and his wife often encounter assistance demands from various types of foundations and charity groups. Mrs. Shih stated that she has her own set of screening standards towards what type of foundation to join. Amongst these, she places the most emphasis on operating management, financial affairs and implementing personnel quality…etc., while the same evaluating principles are also implemented towards the public welfare projects privately sponsored by Mrs. Shih, she also has a team to select, approve and trace the projects she has sponsored.
“Teaching you how to fish is better than giving you a fish” is one of the principles Mrs. Shih holds when devoting herself to charity projects, and spending money to solve issues was never the attitude for Mrs. Shih. The groups or projects she sponsored are usually those that often only require a little push to make it work pay attention on, she is always willing to be the motivational push, and she each project under sponsorship, thereby facing charity sponsorship with a responsible attitude.
Due to the belief towards the promotion of goodwill, Mrs. Shih especially values the development of education in rural townships and children’s education, as well as the promotion of culture, hoping children or groups who once received help during their toughest times may make a contribution back to society to promote positive development after they grew up steadily and strongly. In Mrs. Shih’s heart, the more she becomes involved in public welfare events, the more she learns that there are just too many people in society that require assistance or resources, and that the help she could provide on her own is limited. Yet Mrs. Shih still holds tightly onto the principle that charity is not giving out mercy but offering the most effective assistance, hoping to introduce positive energy to society for the development towards more positive direction via own caring and contribution towards society, and this is maybe the so-called entrepreneur demeanor.
