The Latest Exhibition at Fubon Art Museum, Susumu Shingu’s “Cosmos—Wind Traveler.”

Fubon Art Museum: Susumu Shingu’s “Cosmos—Wind Traveler”

Dubbed “Wind Poetry,” Susumu Shingu’s work elegantly transforms natural elements such as wind and water into tangible artistic expressions. These abstract forces of nature become both captivating and representational in his hands. His exhibition goes beyond static sculptures; it invites viewers into a serene and poetic world where Shingu’s creations gently sway in the wind, engaging in quiet dialogue with the surrounding space.

Shingu’s mastery lies in his ability to precisely capture the subtle movements of the wind, presenting them through clean lines and refined forms. His art represents the artistic form of “intangible strength of nature” as an invisible poetry weaving through the circulating flow of the wind. In a world increasingly driven by technology and data, Shingu’s work offers a gentle reminder to slow down and reconnect with nature; feel the movement of the wind, and enjoy the minutiae moments in our daily lives.

Chimei Museum: “Painters’ Tales of the Low Countries—Flemish and Dutch Paintings of the CHIMEI Collection”

Chimei Museum: “Painters’ Tales of the Low Countries—Flemish and Dutch Paintings of the CHIMEI Collection”

Renowned for its remarkable and often unexpected exhibitions, Chimei Museum once again presents a transcendent artistic exploration with its latest special exhibition, “Painters’ Tales of the Low Countries.” The exhibition delves into the artistic world of the 16th and 17th century Netherlands, offering visitors an immersive journey into a golden age of artistic and cultural flourishing. During this period, the Netherlands was at the height of its economic and cultural influence, and art evolved from being an exclusive privilege of the upper class to a trend of the middle class. The art market thrived, and this exhibition not only celebrates the diversity and prosperity of Dutch painting but also reveals the hidden secrets behind these masterpieces.

Featuring nearly 60 selected artworks, the exhibition invites visitors to look beyond the canvas and explore the deep layers of these paintings. Through scientific techniques such as X-ray radiography or infrared reflectography, art researchers have uncovered details long obscured by time—preliminary sketches hidden beneath the paint, traces of alterations made during the creative process, and even losses from the surface profile. These discoveries act as time capsules, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the techniques and methods employed by the masters of the era.

A particular highlight of the exhibition is the exploration of artistic training during this period. The unique process of the “crafting of a master” can be seen from the artworks of how apprentices make their way into celebrated artists and how their work became highly sought after in a flourishing art market. This insight underscores the systematic, commercial approach to art production, as well as early stages of mass production in the art world.

Benrei HUANG, 2023, “Embrace! With Your One Ear and My One Ear, We Become One.”

Eslite Gallery: Benrei HUANG Solo Exhibition “Embrace! With Your One Ear and My One Ear, We Become One”

As 2024 gracefully draws to a close, Eslite Gallery is set to conclude this remarkable year with Benrei Huang’s solo exhibition, “Embrace! With Your One Ear and My One Ear, We Become One” After a three-year break, Benrei returns with her signature character, the beloved “Nini the Rabbit,” inviting us into a world of tenderness and profound symbolism. Over the past few years, Nini has been our steadfast companion through the turbulence of the pandemic and global uncertainty. In this exhibition, Nini embarks on an adventurous theme of “finding the wolf,” presenting 26 new works and felted wool sculptures that delve into the depths of Nini’s inner journey.

One of the highlighting creations, “Looking for her wolf,” creates a dialogue between the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood and Benrei’s earlier work, “Little Red’s Temptation,” from ten years ago. Here, the Little Red Riding Hood serves as a metaphor for temptation and fear, reimagined by Benrei as Nini puts on a striking red cloak and sets off on a journey in search of the “Wolf”—a symbol of the unknown and the courage to confront one’s deepest fears. This exhibition is not only an extension of Benrei’s personal artistic journey but also an emotional and introspective exploration of life.
