Warmth Beneath the Summer Sun
George Hu
On the eve of Typhoon Bavi’s arrival, weather forecasts painted an anxious picture across Taiwan. Yet in Yilan, the day unfolded beneath unexpectedly gentle sunshine. Having only recently undergone minimally invasive wrist surgery, George Hu still arrived punctually with his trademark smile, his professionalism entirely undiminished. Under the warm afternoon light, the entire cover shoot wrapped smoothly.
In front of the camera, he was as relaxed and composed as he had been when photographing the cover of enya Fashion Queen three years ago. Away from the lens, however, conversations about the past few years revealed a quieter confidence born of experience. According to his manager, another overseas production may soon be on the horizon. Our conversation naturally wandered from the passion that first drew him to acting, to his evolving outlook after marriage, the comfort of home, his beloved rescue dog Chelsea, and the charitable work he hopes to pursue for years to come.

Following the Light
George’s journey began in childhood, learning Chinese martial arts from his mother and regularly performing traditional routines on stage. What began as family tradition gradually became something far more meaningful.”I didn’t expect to enjoy performing so much,” he says with a smile. “Looking back, maybe that’s where everything started.”Even after years of acting, every new role still feels like unexplored territory. He approaches each character with fresh curiosity, while adventure-based reality programmes continue to hold a special place in his heart. Whether rowing to Guishan Island or taking on physically demanding challenges in Japan, anything that combines travel, sports and the outdoors immediately captures his interest.
One of his most rewarding experiences recently came from filming overseas with an entirely American production crew. Unlike a previous production in Norway, where many crew members were still from Asia, this project introduced him to a completely different filmmaking culture. Everything—from camera movement to lighting design—offered new perspectives.”I basically learned the whole package,” he laughs. What stayed with him most, however, was seeing people from different cultural backgrounds working seamlessly toward the same goal. When asked which role has challenged him the most, George pauses before answering: a symphony orchestra conductor.Having studied music from an early age, he admits conductors once seemed difficult to understand. Over time, though, he came to appreciate what truly defines them—not simply musical ability, but the quiet charisma of leading an entire orchestra forward together.

Growing Into Himself
Nearly three years into his marriage with Annie Chen, home has taken on an entirely different meaning. When you’re out working, you’re always mindful of your appearance. Once I get home, I can let all of that go and simply enjoy doing whatever I want. It’s difficult not to notice how much he has changed over the years. The youthful sharpness has softened into something steadier and more grounded. Asked to describe himself today, he chooses three words:Humble, energetic and versatile.
The definition of success, however, remains exactly the same.If I can wake up every morning, happily enjoy a cup of coffee and make myself breakfast, that’s already a successful life.Despite his trademark sunny image, he admits that moments of self-doubt still arise. Recovering from his recent wrist surgery proved especially challenging. When I couldn’t move at all, I honestly started questioning everything. His advice for regaining balance is remarkably simple.Exercise. It lets you step away from reality for a while and helps you find your balance again.

Love That Lasts
The conversation shifts, and the moment Chelsea’s name comes up, George’s expression softens. The rescue dog had never been part of the original plan.I kept saying no because I didn’t think I’d have enough time to properly care for a pet. Then one day, while Annie was away filming, she called.I said yes immediately.Even Annie was surprised. She couldn’t believe it because I’d always been the one refusing. There wasn’t any particular reason. The timing just felt right. If Chelsea could speak?George answers without hesitation.’Pet me! Pet me! She absolutely loves being petted. Sometimes she’ll even force you to keep going. That same sense of commitment shapes the way he approaches charity.Once you’ve decided to do something, you have to keep showing up.
One cause he hopes to devote more attention to in the future is employment opportunities for people with disabilities.I once visited a supermarket that employed people with Down syndrome. I asked one employee where something was, and he answered immediately and accurately. I was genuinely surprised and deeply moved. That’s something I’d really like to support.Whether adopting Chelsea or supporting charitable causes, George believes both require the same thing: long-term commitment, genuine care and the willingness to keep giving.

Closing
As our conversation drew to a close, ARCHI Hotel thoughtfully served George a bowl of its signature Original Beef Noodles, inspired by Chef André Chiang’s childhood memories. The moment it arrived, he couldn’t help but smile and exclaim, “Wow!” adding one final heartwarming moment to an afternoon already filled with warmth. Before leaving the set, George also took the opportunity to reassure fans who had been concerned about his recent wrist surgery, once again demonstrating how deeply he values the people who continue to support him.
Our conversation touched on acting, personal growth, love and companionship. More than the familiar warmth audiences have long associated with George Hu, what emerged throughout the afternoon was someone grounded, thoughtful and quietly steadfast—qualities that shine just as brightly beyond the spotlight.
